Winter in the Schladming-Dachstein Region

It simply couldn't get better - the four ski mountains in the region - Planai, Hochwurzen, Reiteralm and Hauser Kaibling . They will offer all winter sports experiences at its best. The most beautiful slopes for every level of ability, state-of-the-art lifts and a cosy hut culture ensure an all-round perfect winter vacation in the midst of an almost unreal snow backdrop. For snowboarders, the Superpark Planai also offers a first-class selection of kickers for all levels of ability.

Cross-country skiing is becoming more and more popular, because the natural flow of movement amongst nature is very good for body and soul. The scenically impressive free skating and classic cross-country trails in Untertal can be reached within a short time from us. Additionally Ramsau am Dachstein (10 km away) is considered to be the Nordic center and offers with its 220 km long cross-country trail network the highest quality in Nordic sports.

Sliding down from the mountain to the valley on a sled is a real fun for young and old. The Hochwurzen offers a 7 km long toboggan run from the summit to the valley station by the panorama gondola. It's simply fun and whoever wants to can float back up in the gondola. In the evening the toboggan run is well lit and with a stop for refreshments in a rustic hut, the tobogganing party becomes perfect. Toboggans can be rented at the valley station!

Away from the slopes, in wild undisturbed surroundings, ambitious skiers can fulfill their dreams of the perfect experience. Climbing up step by step in the middle of the breathtakingly beautiful winter landscape, enjoying the wonderful panorama and then descending over slopes covered in deep snow - that is pure happiness. We can recommend a variety of tours in the nearby Schladminger Tauern - but we would like to point out that this offer requires appropriate skills, good equipment and consideration of weather and snow conditions.

The quiet winter landscape is incredibly charming and the exercise in the fresh, crystal clear mountain air is a real treat. Designated winter hiking trails and snowshoe routes lead through forests covered in deep snow and across meadows covered with a thick white blanket of snow. Here and there a trace of hare and deer, there you find a view that could not be more beautiful. Warm up a little on a welcoming stop and continue on your way.

The bells of the horses can be heard from far away. The horses manes blow in the wind, the snow crunches under their hooves. Powerfully they pull the sleigh through the winter landscape and wonderful impressions open up. Well wrapped up and warm, a horse sleigh ride is a wonderful way to experience winter in its most beautiful form. The ride often offers the great opportunity to stop off at a rustic hut to taste regional delicacies.
